Big Weekend!!

We all hope you had a great long weekend. We decided to go up for the weekend to visit our friends that live in Cummings, GA. I kept the routine all the way through the weekend. Friday night we got up their late and Annabelle had been sleeping ... so we sat on the potty only for about a minute. She of course cried because she was tired and also it was a new potty. But Saturday morning she woke up and went 1's!!! She also went on Sunday night and Monday morning. So it looks like once a day she is going. For the most part she has stopped crying when I put her on. I am going to continue through next Saturday to give her treats for just sitting and extra for going ones. Starting Sunday I will only give her a treat for going 1's and 2's. I will do that for 1-2 weeks and then move on to the next phase.

You do not want to rush this first phase!!! It is the most important!!!!!

On a side note: I feel that the more potty's that you introduce them too ... the more comfortable they will get!

She Did It!!!!

Yes.... Annabelle went ONE's on the Big Girl Potty!!! Things have been going pretty well. We have been putting her on in the morning and at night to get a routine down. She will spread her legs and hold on to the potty with no problem now... she still cries every once in a while but I find if I leave the bathroom she will stop right away. But tonight... 6 days into it... she went one's!!!

I think I scared her a little because I was cheering so loud... but I got her down and gave her 5 potty treats to show her she did something right!!!

This weekend we will be at a friends house ... but I am bring the potty treats and will stick to the routine!

Week 1

Couple of things that I forgot to put in the last blog. Before you start... make sure you put your child on the potty a couple of times before you actually start. This way it is not 7 in the morning and you are putting them on the potty for the first time! It can be a little scary!!

Well... we started putting her on Saturday morning and things have been going good. Of course, she cried the first couple of times... but that is normal. I have been increasing the time that she sits every morning and night. So, on Saturday morning she sat for about 30 seconds, Saturday night she sat for about a minute and we were not in the bathroom with her. Sunday morning she sat for a good 2 minutes... very little crying (only when she saw me check in on her). I will continue to increase the time. At this point in time you are trying to get a routine down. This is the longest and hardest part!!

Someone asked why we are not using a "little" potty. My reasoning behind it is... I do not want to have to teach her to use two potty's. We are not a "stay at home" kind of family so I want her to be able to use the potty when we are camping or at the store or even at a friends house. This way when we are done with the potty training... WE ARE DONE!!!

She understands that she gets a treat for sitting on the potty and we are always clapping and praising her for sitting. Things are going well. I will check back in at the end of  week 1.

No Turning Back Now!!

When you decide to start... you will begin by putting them on the potty(the same toilet that you use) first think in the morning (right after you take the diaper off) and last thing right before bed. It is very important that you keep to this schedule, never veering no matter who might be caring for them.

Do not sit with them after the first couple of times... this way their success is not depended on you sitting with them. You give them a treat just for sitting, extra if they go 1's, extra extra if they go 2's!

PRAISE PRAISE PRAISE!!!!! WHAT A BIG BOY/GIRL YOU ARE, I AM SOOOOO PROUD OF YOU.... etc. Make sure you pick a treat that is just used for potty that they have never had before; stickers are good but candy works much better and its only one small little piece.

This stage will last anywhere from 2-4 weeks. Once this is mastered, you can move on to the next phase.

Things to remember:
  • Don't let them get off the potty on their own; you will lose the control of having them sit.
  • PRAISE, PRAISE, PRAISE!!!!!
  • Once you start there is no going backwards only forward!!!
  • Boys are taught to sit and push their penis down at this age, later, any time before school you will teach them to stand.
  • Everyone needs to be on board that is caring for your child!!!

We are starting tomorrow, Saturday May 19th!!! We will put her on as soon as she wakes up in the morning. We will let you know how it goes!!

Potty Training Terminology

Potty Training Terminology

One month before you begin to start potty training, begin to use the correct terminology. We use 1's for urine and 2's for bowel movement (BM). Use the words when you change their diapers.

For Example: "Did you go 1's in your pants?", "Are you going 2's? You can do this in the potty"

May 1st 2012 is when we started using the terminology with Annabelle. Kirk and I plan to start potty training Annabelle at the beginning of June. She will be about 16 1/2 months. I realize that it is about a month or 2 early but we wanted to get her potty trained before the new baby comes in September. Kirk has even gone ahead and started pointing to the potty and saying "This is where you go 1's and 2's!!"

Potty Training

Hello!

My mom (Jean) and I (Katie) are starting this blog to help parents potty train their children. Jean has been caring for children for over 25 years and has potty trained over 50 children. I will be blogging her instructions in black and then in purple, I will be explaining what we (My Husband Kirk and I) are doing with our daughter, Annabelle.

This is NOT one of those "potty train your kid in a day" kind blogs. This will take work from both your partner and yourself. It is very important that you and your partner are both on board. But if completed, your child will be potty trained!! (Without Pull Ups!!!)
